Councillors approved plans for kerbside bike paths on Coutts Street, between Te Whiti Street and the airport tunnel, at a meeting in March 2018. This route connects with other new bike paths in Kilbirnie and to Newtown.
The plans have been changed slightly to allow 10 more car parking spaces than originally planned.
The next stage of this project is to complete the detailed design, construction plans and an independent safety audit. We expect construction to start before mid-2019 but we will be in touch with the local community before this.

It connects well with Te Whiti Street and Rongotai Road, and through the airport tunnel to Miramar. The design gives better protection for people on bikes, and is appropriate for a busy through route such as Coutts Street, which has a lot of fast-moving traffic.
