Councillors approved plans for uphill bike lanes on Crawford Road and the top of Constable Street at a meeting on 8 March. This route is the main Kilbirnie-Newtown connection, and will link to other new bike paths soon to be developed in Kilbirnie.
The project includes revised plans for two sections of Crawford Road to retain more car parking, including by moving some car parks from the eastern side to the western side of the road near number 30 and number 40 Crawford Road. View the revised plans (PDF 8.6MB)
Construction on the uphill bike lane at the top end of Constable Street is expected to start on Monday 15 October. Contractors will then move to Crawford Road, with this work expected to start on Monday 29 October.

This route is an important connection for people biking between Kilbirnie and Newtown, and to the central city. The design will give better protection for people on bikes. It is appropriate for a busy through route such as Crawford Road, which has a lot of fast-moving traffic, including buses.
