Not going ahead: On-road bike lanes
Why has this decision been made?
Councillors agreed not to go ahead with the Yule Street bike lanes at a meeting in March 2018. The proposed layout for the street wasn’t well supported during consultation, and only offered marginal benefits for people on bikes. The improved bike lanes on Te Whiti Street will provide a safe alternative route nearby.

Why this solution?
In this quiet street, painted bike lanes between the parked cars and traffic should be enough to make this part of the planned network safer and more appealing for less confident riders. It helps connect the Leonie Gill Pathway with the Rongotai Road bike lanes.
Impacts:
- Two parking spaces would be removed at the Rongotai Road intersection, making it safer for people in vehicles turning into and out of the street.
- The two-way traffic lane would be 5.7m wide between Rongotai Road and Coutts Street. From Coutts Street to Leonie Gill Pathway the two-way traffic lane would be 5.9m wide.
